"WHO'S IN THE NEIGHBOURHOOD?"
Tikipunga High School in Whangarei is home to a number of people who weren't born in New Zealand. Here are their stories......
DIFFERENT CULTURES
| Mrs Field
Our music teacher is from America. She first came to New Zealand in 1988 with the intention of staying for just one year. She wanted to see what New Zealand was like and she liked it so she ended up staying.
Mrs Field is now a New Zealand citizen as well as an American citizen. She has lived in New Zealand for nine years now, she says that she goes back to America for the holidays to see her family. She said that getting a job in New Zealand is faster than trying to get one in America.

| Nick Tanija
Nick Tanija came to New Zealand in 1996 because his dad was called to New Zealand to teach at our school. Nick traveled to New Zealand by plane. Nick is a very smart boy and is very good at sports. He can also speak seven different languages. In Nick's home land Saudi Arabia his family is very rich but over here they're just a plain old family.

| Mrs Piper
Mrs Piper came to New Zealand on the January the 7th ,1997. She says that New Zealand's climate is different to theirs because when it's summer over there it's just going on winter here. Mrs Piper said that she came to New Zealand to visit her family and to look for a job as a teacher because as you know it's much easier to get a job in New Zealand other than any other country. Mrs Piper is from Canada a place with ten provinces and two territories.

| Duane
Duane flew over from Samoa because his father Talauma said that he either walks through the black heart of the forest or he had to fly over to New Zealand and find him a wife to be his child's guardian while he is at work. He has been here for two years, he thinks New Zealand is better than Samoa, because it is way better than his country and there is more people and he can see more ladies, shops, sport shops and different style of clothing than his.
|
| Jresarn
Jresarn flew over from Tonga to find him a job at K.F.C.
He has been here for two years and he thinks that New Zealand is alright, because there is sometimes surf and great weather, but sometimes he doesn't like it because it rains more in new zealand then it does in Tonga.

| John
John came over on a boat because his parents could not send him over on a plane, he came over because he wanted a better job, and a better place for his kids to live in. He has been living here for one year and two months. He just thinks it's primo because there is no volcanoes, earthquakes and no tittle waves.
