"WHAT ARE THEY LIKE?"

Passmores & Oxford

Passmores School Essex

Project Group highlights:

  • I know for a fact that New Zealand is hotter than England. I think one of your main industries would be farming e.g. sheep farming because when I buy lamb in the shop it normally says "a New Zealand lamb".

  • You are an island in the lower part of the Pacific ocean.
Thanks from Joseph, group 1

  • New Zealand is in the south of the Pacific Ocean, to the east of Australia.

  • I am sure that my uncle, who has been to New Zealand, said that it was like England but the summer was in our winter. I remember him telling me of a ten mile sandy beach.

  • I think the weather could get very hot in the summer and the winter maybe slightly milder than ours.

  • I expect there are MacDonalds, Burger King and Pizza Hut restaurants in the larger towns, and people drink Coca Cola & Pepsi.

  • Maoris are native to New Zealand. I think that many of the population are from England, or had English parents. English is spoken.

Claire Bird 7DW, leader of group 2

  • The country is about 200 years old (but the Maoris lived there long before that).

  • New Zealand was named after a province in the Netherlands called "Zeeland"

  • Captain Cook claimed the country in 1770.

  • In 1642 the first European sighted the island, but the Maoris wouldn't let him ashore.

Elyse T, Amy L, Natalie W, Sarah H, Casandra M, Carly Ann M, members of group 3

  • We think that New Zealand are very good at Rugby.

  • We think that there are over 9,500000 in New Zealand.

  • We think that some people have lived in New Zealand all their life.

Gregg P (leader), George F, James C, group 4

  • I think that New Zealand is quite larger than Britain.

  • New Zealand is an island and is surrounded by the Tasman Sea.

  • The island is in the south east of the world, and has the population of around 3268000.

Kayleigh M (leader), Katie B, Victoria A, Sarah B, group 5

  • We think that they are pretty much the same as us, but they obviously have a different accent to ours.

  • The air in New Zealand may be a lot cleaner and fresher.

  • We think that they would have quite a lot more countryside than we've got.

  • The population should be bigger than ours because the size of New Zealand is slightly larger than Great Britain.

We think that.......

  • We think that England is about the size of New Zealand and that England is attached to a bigger country.

  • I don't know if there is a native culture or not. But if there is I would like to know about it.

  • You people have been in England since 1700s. I would like to know about England's history because I don't know anything about it now.

Bye from CRAIG & KRISTY

hello england.

  • We think that people look very posh and proper and that they act like that as well. We know that they speak english. They also sound very posh.

  • No there is not a native culture, I think anyway because they discovered just about every single other country.

From Jennie Emerson, Sam Cochrane and Michael Taylor

  • We think England's population is about 25 millon.

  • We think that people born in England speak natural English and have skin that is white as snow.

  • We think the native culture is polynesian but we know very little about it.

Sarah MacKay

Class 3SH summary:

  • England is bigger than N.Z.
  • It's not an island, it's attached to a larger land mass. Maybe Europe?
  • It's on the other side of the world to us and is part of Europe.
  • Our estimates of how many people live there range from 4 million to 13 million!
  • In England they speak English!!
  • The people that live in England look very much like us but their skin is white and they talk with an accent!!
  • We don't know if there is a native culture in England. We don't think so.
  • They don't really have a traditional costume, but we tend to think of smart looking suits.
  • England is older than N.Z.! But we're not sure by how much.
  • The country side looks very much like ours, but the cities are bigger and the hills are more gently rolling.
  • What we know about the history of England is that there are queens and kings and somewhere mixed up it it all there are Vikings!
  • The climate in England is much colder than ours.

  • We think that England is half the size of Australia and it's attached to other countries.

  • It belongs to Europe and it's on the other side of the world.

  • We think that there are 5-12 millon people in England and they look like us. They speak just like us.

  • The others think that there is a native culture but Sarah and I think there is none.

  • We think that they walk around in suits and stuff.

  • Some of our group think that English people have been in England for ever. But we think that they immigrated.

  • We think England was always ruled by a king or queen.

  • We think that England has rolling hills and it's green and that they have blizzards and floods in the winter. In summer there is nice hot weather.

That's what Sarah and Sibylle think.
