- WEATHER -

WEATHER OR NOT

We are both island nations, so shouldn't our weather be the same? What about our different seasons?

Find a local weather forecast in the newspaper, cut out the weather map and its key, don't include the written forecast. Scan the map and key onto the computer and send it to your pair school. See if your pair school can use the map to make a reasonable prediction of your weather using only the map and key. In the mean time, record the actual weather you had for the day that was forecast, note the sunshine hours, rainfall level, cloud cover, snow fall, wind direction, burn time, time of weather changes.

Once your pair school has made their predictions let them know how they went, and how well did the official newspaper prediction do?

What were some of the differences in the weather between Britain and NZ? Why might there be differences?

Write a 12 stanza poem, with each stanza for a month in the year. For each month give some idea of what the weather is like e.g.

A year in New Zealand

Our year here, it begins in January
where the kids in sand they will bury
me up to my neck
it's summer, what the heck
sandy swimsuits don't matter because we're merry.

Well, I'm sure you can come up with something better, but hopefully you will get the idea!
