Mt Maunganui have been looking at New Zealand press coverage of Britain. Here are some highlights:

Tuesday 11 March 1997

  • Claim that there was a world first cloning a human being. Had happened by accident. Reports indicate this was not true.
  • Prince William was confirmed into the anglican church at St George's chapel. The ceremony briefly united the royals.
  • The british media is making a lot over the Interlink project.

Wednesday 12 March 1997

  • 38% of 4 - 11 year old children arn't eating beef. 1 in 5 are avoiding eating meat due to 'mad cow disease.'
  • Yorkshire ripper - attacked in prison - eyes gouged.
  • British sikhs want to wear turbans not hard hats.

Friday 14 March 1997

  • Handguns have been banned by law.
  • Paul McCartney was Knighted.
  • Global warming seems to be the cause of unusual (yellow) coloured frogs and Albino hedgehogs.
