"A DAY IN THE LIFE......"

Wales
by Glantaf Welsh Comprehensive School Cardiff

A typical Monday and Saturday

On Monday we come to school. We get up at 6.35am and have a shower. We have some breakfast and off we go to the bus. Most of the people go on the bus. On a Monday morning we have computers and write to you. School starts at 9.00am and finishes at 3.45pm. After school we go home get changed from our uniform and go out with our friends or if we have homework we have to stay in and do it.

But on Saturday we stay in bed until about 10.30am. We get up and go shopping or we just have fun. In the nights we go stay over friends house. We rent loads of videos and have lots of chocolate.

A Typical Monday:

Every morning I wake up, get dressed and everything in a semi-concious state. I get my breakfast and feed the cat. I watch the T.V. for about twenty-minutes before getting a lift to school. I get a lift from my step-dad about half the way and walk the rest. I arrive in school with about half an hour before registration (around 8:30). I read a Michael Moorcock book until about nine o'clock. Monday is probably the best day for lessons (apart from French). The first lesson of week is Welsh which isn't that bad compared to sport. If my friends aren't in school it's really boring (not that I'm saying school isn't boring normally). I can't wait `till break-time, because it's an excuse to get out of school for twenty minutes. I have an apple everyday. Every brake-time, me and my friends talk about anything. Dinner-time is the highlight of the typical school day. After dinner is English which is probably my favourite lesson, Not!! The last lesson of the day is Geography, that lesson passes by pretty fast. We have to wait for the bus for about quarter of an hour. When I get home, I'm on the computer `till the late hours of the night. I go to sleep, and it's Tuesday.

A Typical Monday

Before I leave the house in the morning I have to get dressed and do my hair, sort out my bag, make my packed lunch and have some breakfast. I have to leave my house at quarter past eight and make sure I'm at my bus stop to catch my bus by about twenty-five past. My bus is so busy I have to stand up until we get to the lower school, because our school is split into two sites.

We usually get to the upper school at about quarter to nine and school starts at nine. First of all we have half an hour of registration. During this time we not only have registration but we also do homework, have vocabulary tests and assembly on Fridays.

First lesson is double Welsh. We have been practising for our S.A.T.S. exams but our teacher is absent at the moment. Next is computers! I like this lesson because we get to communicate with you.

At break I go into the main entrance where I meet my friends from other classes. We are an odd bunch because our ages vary from 13 to 18. We all have a laugh and fight over the radiator.

My next lesson is biology. Biology's O.K but it's not one of my favourite lessons because it can get quite boring. At lunch-time I go to a fantasy Role Play club. not many of us do it and I'm the only girl, but were all friends and we enjoy it a lot.

The first two lessons of the afternoon for me are English. We have just finished reading "Animal Farm" by George Orwell and we are doing a lot of work at the moment on William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet".

Lesson eight is French. We are in the middle of several French exams at the moment so we have to do a lot of revision. The last lesson of the day is Geography.I think Geography is boring. We are learning about Italy at the moment.

At the end of the day I have to be very quick to make sure I catch my bus because they leave very quickly. On the way home I sit with my friends and we talk and tell jokes.

When I get home I do my homework and listen to some music or watch some television. I usually help my mum make tea or just generally help around the house as well. Then when I go to bed, If I'm not too tired I read or listen to some music on my headphones.

A Typical Monday

A typical Monday begins with an alarm bell in my ear, and you know it's time for school. I get up and get dressed and make my way down the stairs for breakfast, making sure I consume it quickly in time for the weary bus journey to school.

After a whole hour of sheer agony with all of the first formers shouting, I am relieved to get off it and into another torture - School.

An early arrival is a large relief to me, some time to recoup myself and prepare for the day ahead. The first encounter in the morning is registry, the same old routine every time. All of the names being called, a little chat, and it's off to the first lesson.

First lesson is Welsh. Although it is our national language you can get fed up of it after a while. Then 10.30 arrives and my favourite lesson, a chance to relieve all of the pressures of the day, and enjoy a little.

After Biology passes it is lunch time and another chance to recharge my batteries. But then its back to hard work, and can you imagine a more laborious lesson than English. Especially as now we are approaching the tests for our year here in Britain, the S.A.T's, and currently we are doing work on literature - and the great Playwright, William Shakespeare. But please bare in mind that after the couple of doses of Shakespeare a week, English, as a whole can be a lot of fun.

Next French and another lesson of the same. The novelty of it has nearly worn off now because we have been doing it for three years so far. There are only a few lessons that we have a chance to relax and perhaps have a bit of fun ! Last lesson, Hooray! Geography - not all that bad I suppose. You never know perhaps one of these days we may study New Zealand, and learn a little about you and your culture.

Then after just half an hour of Geography it's time to go home. But not without more discomfort, another trip on the bus hails the genuine end of the day. Certainly from my point of view !!!

A typical Monday

Monday is my worst day of the week. Monday is the worst day in school, because that's when we have are worst lessons. I wake up around about 7:30 ready for my breakfast, after my breakfast I get changed, now I'm ready to go to school. I catch a bus at 8:10 to be in school ready for 9:00. We arrive at 8:55, that's when we meet our friends. The bell rings, telling us that we should go to our lesson. Our first break is around about 11:00 we have one lesson between 11:00 and dinner. We finish school at 3:45 and if we're lucky we'll catch the bus on time. I usualy go to bed at 10:00.

My Monday

On an average Monday I get up at 7:30am, with the dreadful realization that there is school today.

I rush madly about to get dressed, wash, and eat my breakfast in time to catch the bus. As I run around the corner to the bus stop the bus is already there and my friend Sara has to ask the driver to wait. I stumble up the steps to the top deck and fall gratefully into my seat, relieved that I have succesfully negotiated the first stage of my day.

On the bus I chat to my friends about what we saw on the television, who's going out with who, and complain about the lessons we've got that day.

The day passes uneventfully from lesson to lesson, with little fun gaps at break time and dinner when I meet my friends and we talk and mess about.

On the bus ride home everyone is more relaxed. We laugh, joke and generally enjoy the fact that school is over for that day. At home I have tea, do my homework, watch telly, and phone friends to have a chat or to arange something for the weekend.

A typical Saturday

On Saturday I get up at about 7.00am and get ready for work. I go and call for my friend at 8.00am she only lives down the road so I don't have to leave my house till 7.55 . We then walk to my nana's have breakfast then catch a bus to town.

We start work in the hairdresser's at 9.00 until 1.30. My nan usually comes to pick me up then we have lunch and go back to her house for the rest of the day.

We play cards and watch television and some times go down to see my grandma. I go home about 8.00pm then me and my sister tidy up for my mum then we get changed for bed and watch what ever's on Sky TV. That's my typical Saturday.

Saturday

On a typical Saturday I usually get up from bed as late as possible (around 10:00am) and then sit around for an hour or so having breakfast, getting changed and watching the television. Then I walk down to catch the train to meet up with some friends to go shopping in town (Cardiff) we browse around the shops for a few hours and maybe see a film at the cinema and then go for lunch in a cafe.

After we have done enough shopping for one day and have spent all of our money we head back to someone's house and play games, listen to music and watch videos well into the early hours of Sunday morning then snuggle in our beds and go to sleep.

Holly's Saturday - 15/3/97

Today I got up late for a change and had a nice breakfast whilst watching telly. I had not much to do this morning so I played on the computer until lunch time. I had a bacon baguette and a fruit tart. At 1.15pm I headed off for town where I was meeting my friends Amy, Katie and Rhian. After a little shop around Amy and I had our ears pierced at the top which hurt a bit, but it wasn't as painful as I expected.

At tea time we went to 'Pizza Hut' and had unlimited ice-cream, but we only managed half a bowl. After another little shop around we took Rhian to the train station and then the rest of us went back to my dad's house. We watched a video and stayed up late.
