It is 2100. The new Millennium. Earth is dying. Its resources are almost gone. Water is scarce - the population growth has not slowed down - and the planet is heating up fast.
A planet has been found 20 light years away which appears to be the mirror image of Earth. An unmanned survey probe was sent out and it reported back its findings. The planet appears to have water, air, grass and trees, and similar mineral deposits to Earth. It appears to have seasons and to have oceans and land masses. It has ice-bound poles - in all respects it seems to be exactly the same as Earth. Remarkable. And it doesn't seem to be inhabited.
Since making this discovery, the Earth Council has been saving just enough of the world's precious metals and fuel to build a spaceship. It's a desperate act for desperate times but the council of 12 has decided it can send 200 people - travellers - to make the journey to "Brave New World" (the Council has decided to leave the naming of the planet to those who travel to it).
Now the Council must decide who and what to send, and it must plan for the kind of society to build there that will have the best chance of survival.
Earth will not survive. Soon it will be gone. No other people will leave - only the 200 chosen for the flight. Only they will continue to represent the memory, spirit, culture, skills and achievements of the people of Earth.
You are the Council of 12 - it is your role to decide who will go and what will be taken. Working with your pair school, you can choose a particular area of responsibility. You will need to work together with your Council colleagues as the decisions you make will impact on their areas of responsibility. There are six different areas of responsibility which means that two pairs can work on each area.
