magic moments

...from the students of Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf Cardiff

I have enjoyed this project very much. I'm linked up to the internet at home, but I have never done something like this. Linked up to the other side of the world has been a great experience for all of us.

Although I have enjoyed the whole project, I liked sharing and comparing Celtic and Maori myths and legends. It's interesting to see how similar many of our legends are. In turn it shows how similar we are to each other. I hope that some of us can keep in touch after we have finished with the project.

My favourite moment during the Interlink was most probably creating our own World Wide Web page which was the Myths and Legends Homepage and the Thoughts about New Zealand Homepage. During the first few days of creating the homepage was very hard as I didn't know how to create a Web Page and also because the writing involved loads of jibberish.

The first page that I was made to do was the Thoughts page which involved Glantaf's thoughts about New Zealand and its Native Culture, and most of the answers that went on to the page were completely wrong as to what New Zealand said about their country and their Native Culture.

I was also assingned to do another page on the Internet which was to be called Myths and Legends, and that page contributed to the Myths and Legends of Wales.

There have been many magic moments for me, and here are some of them. The most magical moment for me happened about two years ago out of school hours, when I met Vinnie Jones the Wimbledon F.C Captain and one of Wales' best players, in the Welsh Sports Personality Of The Year Presentation. Another magical moment for me was getting the whole of the Pontypridd Rugby Team and some of the Llanelli Rugby team's autographs, and meeting New Zealand born Dale McIntosh.

I have enjoyed taking part in the Interlink link between the schools. Most of all I have enjoyed sending our messages over to New Zealand, and receiving their letters to us. I enjoyed making many pages to go on the Internet such as the "Interlink Exchange Homepage", and "What we're Really Like", and "Launch". My favourite part of the whole project was meeting Maori, and Cardiff Rugby player Hemi Taylor at the start of the Interlink. I'm looking forward to talking with some of our Maori friends on the "IRC" even though it means coming into school after it's closed, and I've been practising with my friends during the lunch hour. I'm really enjoying being a part of this link with another country across the world.

Out of all the enjoyable things we did in the Interlink, I enjoyed making the Web-Site most. Before we could start on the site we had to learn HTML - the language used to compose Web-Sites. We were lent a book on the language and given sample sites to look at and learn from. We had to decide who was responsible for which tasks and then begin on them. I was responsible for the "Typical Monday" section. We learnt about GIF images, hypertext links, File Transfer Protocal, and the World Wide Web in general. The Interlink project taught us a lot about the internet, E-Mail, The IRC, and the Web. I very much enjoyed the project and learnt a lot more about the internet and its communication usage, I sparked my interest in the internet and showed us all what a great way the internet is to communicate. During the launch a few famous people came along and we were on the radio, and we certainly learnt a lot about New Zealand, its people, its culture and all aspects of life over there.

I have enjoyed working on the Interlink Project very much through-out the short time we have been working on it.

One aspect of the project I enjoyed was when we were comparing information on our very different countries. I found this interesting, because we could see what find out what the children of Lytton thought about Wales.

Another aspect I enjoyed was reading messages sent by the children of Lytton. I found it good to find out information about another place I wouldn't have normally known anything about.

I've really enjoyed the interlink project. Before we started our lessons were dull and seemed relatively pointless. Now there seems to be a reason for it all. The project has introduced me to a whole new dimension in communication, I never thought it would be so convenient and quick to send information to someone on the other side of the planet.

Before this project I knew nearly nothing about New Zealand and its people. They weren't people like us with everyday lives, they were just people who you sometimes saw on the telly. Now we've realised that they're just like us, enjoying the same music and hobbies as us.

My favourite bit of the project was the first letters they sent over telling us what they knew about us already. They were really funny because they all seemed to think we were Scottish, walking around in kilts and eating haggis all the time!!!!!!

I've really enjoyed this project, it's been really interesting and loads of fun.

The thing I mostly enjoy doing with the Interlink was receiving letters from children in New Zealand. We received letters and then sent letters back about us, our hobbies and about our Welsh traditions and language. Their letters were full of their hobbies and traditions. The traditions were Maori traditions. They were different to our Welsh traditions.

Our favourite part of the InterLink scheme was when we first received information from New Zeland. What we were doing didn't sink in until we read the personal files. It was fun finding out about people who were so far away. Before we started the scheme we didn't know much about New Zeland, but now we understand a bit more about their way of life, and realize they're not all sheep farmers who drink xxxx larger all day long! We have really enjoyed the project and it felt like we were really getting to know each other and learn about New Zeland. That was special.

The thing we enjoyed doing mostly with this Interlink programme was receiving letters from people of New Zealand. The letters we received were very interesting. They told us all about what people our age got up to and the language they use, we also had a lot of fun doing it.

We really liked replying to the letters that were sent to us because it was exciting to get a letter from the other side of the world.

The best part about doing this project is that you get a chance to communicate with people from New Zealand and learn about their different cultures and what they do on the weekend and how its different to what we do for instance we go to the cinema and they go surfing, we go home after school and they go straight to the beach.

We have also learned some new words and some new phrases, but most enjoyable thing about it is to learn about the myths and legends.

The thing I enjoy most about this project is reading the messages from New Zealand. I enjoy reading about how children the same age live. About the things they're into, what they doing the weekend and comparing with what we do. We are similar in some ways, but they do different things like surfing, also they are into different music.

I have learnt many things about New Zealand and there culture, and have enjoyed learning this. They have told us about slang words they use, some the same as we use but most different.

I enjoyed writing to them about me and Wales. Also I've enjoyed missing English lessons.

The thing I enjoyed doing with the Interlink was receiving letters from the children in New Zealand. Most of them were quite interesting, so then I wrote back to them. It was really fun! I really liked finding out about other people that live halfway across the world. Because of this I know much more about New Zealand and the people who live there.
