Video Conferencing

To mark the end of this phase of the InterLink project, we thought we'd do something a bit special. We were able to connect most of our pairs through IRC, but we wanted more!

Two of our schools in Britain, St Peter's School in Derry and Passmores School in Essex, were able to organise video conferencing from their end, so it was up to us to find some way of linking up in New Zealand. At very short notice, Telecom in New Zealand came up with a plan - we could use their video conference facilities in Rotorua and Christchurch and link St Peter's and Passmores with their pair schools - Opotiki College in Opotiki and Oxford Area School in Canterbury.

Woo hoo! Frantic emailing took place between CWA, the four schools, Telecom and the two venues in the UK - Ulster University and Nortel. Faxes flew, phone calls were made in the middle of the night, and by Monday 30 June we were all set. The plan was to do two video conferences in two days - one from Rotorua Polytechnic, the other from Oxford Area School........
